As you may already know, I've started using Linux as my daily driver on mac, because of 'planned obsolescence.'
So two of the things I need to find alternatives for was Photoshop and Illustrator. Since Figma was acquired I promptly decided to stop using their services.
Now, the Linux free versions of these happens to be 'Gimp' and 'Inkscape.'
These aren't bad, but Linux always seem to miss the mark when it comes you UX. Now, a lot of us reading, might not deem it to be such a big deal, but it is the finer points that really matter. If someone spent a little more time perfecting the user experience, these open source alternatives would be so much better.
Of course, I am not saying this is trivial - far from it. I mean Linux has a LOT of desktop environments to support (this being a weakness rather than a strength IMO), but if they just basically carbon copied some of the bigger software UI/UX tweaks it would be a much better experience.
I suppose what I'm saying is how you package and present something means so so much. First impressions count.
