It is no surprise I'm a huge Macos fan. It happens to be one of the best development environments, especially for web. Laravel's ecosystem has added to this benefit, with products like 'Laravel Herd' which makes getting started with PHP almost ridiculously simple. It is a 'one-click' setup.
However, my Intel Macbook is nearing the 'end of support.' This is typical with Apple products. However, it is not so good for the environment. Truth is, I don't really NEED an M series chip. I can happily go about my business without an upgrade. The trouble is security.
Looking online, it seems I have about 1-2 years left of official support. However, I decided to take pre-emptive measures, and in the end I installed Linux. It was not without its problems however. You need to do a lot of searching to configure specific drivers. But after all that, I can say, so far, I have a new setup.
With it, the benefit of open-source and all the new security patches.
Hopefully, this will give my laptop another 5-10 years of life.
